Juniors Cricket: Our blossoming youth system, with ECB qualified coaches and good links with local schools through the Chance 2 Shine (CTS) scheme, will be fielding sides in Under 9 through to Under 15 cricket.
This our 2nd season of Womens competition, whch sees Mrs Joan Smith lead out the Women's cricket team at Cricketfield Lane with a full fixture list. We aim to continue with our Under 13s Girls team this year and may branch out and form our own side if we get enough girls.
All in all the 2010 season is all geared up to be sucessful one on and off the pitch. There will be social events throughout the year for all our members so keep your eyes on the website for further details.
Over the winter period we (those volunteers) have all been busy fundraising and planning for a new double lane; Non-Turf Pitch enclosed net system. The Committee with assistance from Mr Michael Stewart [who is our Coord for the Council Planning application], together with Mr Michael Kay (1st XI) of the ECB. Michael has applied through The Donarbon Community Fund (DCF)for financial assistance towards the project. Concurrently, Mr David Carlaw (Social Committee Chairman) has sought TESCO Ltd - sponsorship. Both of these applications will run alongside our ECB Grant Aid - Single Investment Scheme (SIS). These funds are provided by the ECB to 'Focus Clubs' who meet CTS and Clubmark accredition-of which we qualify through our Junior Division. Hopefully by Mid-year the ECB will make the final decision if we are succesful. Our support to girls and Ladies cricket will hopefully stand us in good stead.
Let's all hope we will be succesfull in acheiving what will be a superb facility in 2010.
Mr John Wells (Cricket Development Officer) is managing this project on behalf of the Main Committee, by completing the ECB SIS and previously hosting the x3 Company bidders who are all ECB approved: Notts Sports Ltd, Exclusive Leisure Ltd, ClubTurf Ltd. The site visits were last year between Sep-Nov. Keep an eye on the Club Notices/Planning/Costs and manufacturers Drawings in the pavilion in April for further details.
